Baseline

2008.11.06. The baseline study provides a state of the art at European level on the topic of governance of cross-border conurbations and an overview of the situation in each cross-border conurbation involved in the “EGTC” URBACT project. It deepens the understanding that each partner has of the situation in the other partner cities, facilitating the starting of their work.


The "EGTC" project is approved by the URBACT Programme (2007/2013)

2008.10.03. The URBACT Monitoring Committee meeting, that took place in Ljubljana on September 26th 2008, approved six European Working Groups to continue into the implementation phase of the URBACT II programme 2007/2013. MOT is lead partner of the “EGTC” project “Expertising Governance for Transfrontier Conurbations”, one of these working groups.

The iconic Mária-Valéria Bridge over the River Danube, linking the cities of Esztergom in Hungary and Štúrovo in Slovakia, provided the backdrop for the launch today of the first "European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation" (EGTC) in central Europe. Committee of the Regions President Luc Van den Brande, who was guest of honour at the ceremony hosted by the mayors of both cities and the "Ister Granum" Euroregion, hailed the EGTC as a "bridge to bring ideas to life".


The establishment of a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation in Esztergom

The representatives of the local governments of 86 settlements signed the founding deed  for the Ister-Granum EGTC on the afternoon of 6th May 2008 in the Knights Hall of the former Royal Palace in Esztergom. The organisation that was formed by 47 Hungarian and 39 Slovakian local governments succeeds as a special association of programmes the institutions of the previous Ister-Granum Euroregion.
